At Umuoma Igbo Academy, we make Igbo language and culture fun, practical, and engaging for children through immersive learning, conversation practice, storytelling, cultural activities, and guided support.
My child does not speak Igbo at all. Can they still join?
Absolutely! Many of our students start with little or no knowledge of Igbo. Our structured curriculum is designed to help children build confidence and gradually develop their speaking, listening, reading, and cultural understanding.
Do parents need to speak Igbo for their children to succeed?
Not at all. Many of our parents are not fluent speakers themselves. We provide practical support and resources to help families encourage language learning at home regardless of their proficiency level.
Are classes online or in-person?
All classes are conducted online, allowing children from anywhere in the world to participate. Our students join us from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Nigeria, and beyond.
Do you offer both private and group classes?
Yes. We offer both group classes and private coaching options. Group classes provide interactive peer learning, while private classes offer personalized instruction tailored to individual goals and schedules.
I have a busy schedule. Is the program flexible?
Yes. We understand that families have different schedules and time zones. Our online learning model is designed to be practical, accessible, and flexible for busy families.
Do you offer classes for adults?
Yes. Our Adult Conversational Igbo Classes are designed for adults who want to learn Igbo, improve their speaking confidence, reconnect with their roots, or communicate more effectively with family members. The focus is practical conversation and real-life usage.
How do you track student progress?
Students participate in weekly learning activities, class participation, speaking challenges, Mid-Term Oral Assessments, and Final Oral Assessments. This allows us to monitor growth and celebrate progress throughout the program.
What makes Umuoma different from YouTube videos or language apps?
Umuoma combines structured learning, live interaction, conversational practice, cultural immersion, progress tracking, and parent support. We help children move beyond memorizing words to confidently speaking Igbo and connecting with their cultural identity.
